There is a Group in Yahoo Groups called Freecycle that promotes Free use as well as Recycling of things.

The mission of this group in their words is:

“Our mission is to build a worldwide gifting movement that reduces waste, saves precious resources & eases the burden on our landfills while enabling our members to benefit from the strength of a larger community.”

How does it work?

You can join the local Freecycle group for your city on Yahoo Groups. For list of Freecycle Local Groups in India click here.

Once you join, you will be subscribed to a mailing list.

Now if you have a free thing available with you then you can offer it on this mailing list. Remember you are offering it for free without expecting anything in return.

If someone is interested in this free thing then he/she will contact you.

Similarly, if you are interested in something offered for free on this list, then you can also contact that person.

Also, if you want something for free, then you can even announce on this group that you are interested in getting this thing for free.

Last but not least, do not consider it as begging for free things group. Its purpose is to reuse the things so that the burden on environment can be reduced.
