• Seven Benefits of Living with Your Parents

  Do you consider yourself lucky to have parents? Have you ever thought about the contribution of your parents in your life?

  Believe me, your parents are your biggest well-wishers in the world. They have no competition with you. They are never jealous of you.They always feel pride in your achievements because you are a part of them.

  Now you have a job and a good life (may be you are married too). But you feel a bit difficult to live with your parents due to their old habits. You can not understand why they talk so much. Why do they not follow the simple manners and etiquette of modern life? Why can’t they just learn to talk in English? Why do they not understand our needs?   The question is not whether you should live with your parents or not. The question is what are the benefits of living with parents. I have myself lived with my parents for more than 5 years and from my personal experience I can give you 7 benefits of living with parents.

  1. Save money – Almost everyone in today’s world is worried about money and expenses. Everyone wants to make more money or save more money. Often you think if you live with your parents, you will have more expenses and less savings. But this is just a misconception. If you live with your parents in their house then you are saving a lot of money on house rent, electricity, grocery etc. Basically, when you share a thing, you save money.

  If your parents live with you in your house, then also you are saving money. How? You may be incurring some expenses on your parents. But there is only very little difference in your expenses if your parents live with you. Whereas, in return you get so many benefits from them that these expenses are easily outweighed by those benefits. Eg. Your house is more secure if your parents live in it. Have you heard of break-ins in a multi-family home?

  2. More Time - If you live with your parents, you always have more time to do the things that you like. My mom she is always ready to help my wife in kitchen. My dad is ready to help me in small official/bureaucratic works. Whether your parents are working or retired, you still have more time. Let say you have to pay an electricity bill. If you and your parents live separate, you both have two sets of bills to take care of. But if you live along with your parents, you can just take turns in doing these small but annoying (and time taking) things.

  3. Moral Support - You will never be alone in this world, if you live with your parents. As I mentioned earlier, our parents always think good of us. They will be always ready to support us in their best way. Let say you are single and fall sick. They will be there to take care of you. The point is that everyone has ups and downs in life. Now if you live with your parents, then they are there to support your during those times when you really need someone. If you are married, your wife may fight with you, but your parents will always be with you. Frankly speaking, you can not rely as much on anyone in this world, as much you can rely on your parents. They may be conservative, old-fashioned, out of place, but they will always be on the top of the list of your well-wishers.

  
  4. Practical Experience & Advice - Obviously, your parents have lived longer than you on this world. They have gained more experience than you in their life. You may not be seeking their advice in day-to-day problem. But there are times when you need a second opinion. If you live with your parents, they can give you the best of their unbiased opinion for free. In my view, you are sure to gain from it.

  Think from another angle. You have seen boom, but you might not have seen recession. You may have seen peace, but you might not have seen war. You may have seen democracy, you might not have seen emergency. You may have seen abundance, but you might not have seen scarcity. History repeats itself. If there is boom now, there can be recession tomorrow. But you have not had any experience of that. But if you discuss some important decision with your parents, they can give a new perspective to you.

  So its wise to have ready access to their practical experience.

  5. Unconditional Love and Emotional Strength - As a human being every one looks for love. You need emotional strength to face the adversities of life. You may have a break down with your wife/girl friend. You may have lost an important opportunity in career. You may have fallen sick. In all these adverse times, your parents give you unconditional love, care and emotional strength.

  If you do not live with your parents, then they may still be wishing well for you, but you can not feel it due to distance. But if you are living with them, then you will feel the difference.

  6. Life of Propriety & Integrity - In this materialistic world, we often find ways that are not honest. There are bad paths that attract us for quick gains. If we live alone, we are on our own. We get into a sense of false pride that whatever we do is always correct. But this is not correct.

  Everyone needs some guidance, discipline and moral values to lead a healthy life. If you live with your parents, you have a moral authority superior than you living in your house. You have someone who can stop you from entering the bad paths. You have the fear to face them, if you commit a sin.

  In the end the life of propriety, honesty and integrity that can make you prosperous and truly happy in long run. So if you live with your parents, you know you are on the way to prosperity, happiness and fulfillment on of your life.

  7. Legacy & Respect - Last but not least, you want people around you to respect you. You want people to recognize you for your good deeds and remember you in long run. You want to leave a legacy to this world. Remember your parents will be the starting point of this legacy. Have you read any great persons biography? Remember they have always respected their parents. Eg. Amitabh Bachchan, the greatest Actor in Indian Cinema, has lived with his parents. Thats the reason his son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya live with him. Another example is of Gandhi Dynasty. They have always lived with their parents. You can take numerous examples from Great Indian Personalities. They have always lived with their parents and that is the reason that their legacy has been so rich.

  To get respect you have to give respect. If you respect your parents, then only you can expect your younger siblings and kids to respect you.

  These seven benefits are not the only benefits, there are numerous benefits of living with parents. Just start living with them and you will know about these.
